Visa fees are going up just in time for the holidays. US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced this week that new fees will take effect on Dec. 23, 2016. Here are some of the visas that will cost more starting December 23:
Form I-130 to establish eligibility for green card through marriage or family relationship:
New fee is $535 (increase of $95)
Form I-140 to establish eligibility for green card through employment:
New fee is $700 (increase of $120)
Form I-485 to adjust status to green card:
New fee is $1,140 (increase of $155)
Form N-400 to become a U.S. citizen:
New fee is $640 (an increase of $45)
On a bright note for some naturalization applicants, USCIS has created a tiered system. If your income does not exceed twice the federal poverty guideline, you are now eligible to pay a reduced fee of $320.
